This is proving a little more difficult than first expected. The basic design is not a problem and is given below. This is for a 12 gore version of 1m diameter. It works very well with bears of .5 to 1 kg dependant upon the rate of decent you require. The pattern includes a seam/hem allowance of 10mm and all dimensions are in mm.
The problems currently being encountered are the height from which we normally drop bears (about 50m) does not give much time for control. The response of radio control servomotors is not fast enough to operate the vents fully unless you use very expensive equipment and this does not like being bounced.
Getting the vents to close properly with the basic systems you can use at this scale is proving difficult. They tend to collapse inwards rather than shutting the vent.
Once these problems are overcome the exact size and locations of the vents has to be worked on. The current thoughts are a 50 X 50mmvent in gores 2 and 11 about 20mm from the edge. Only time will tell.
